A Seminar on Drug Epidemic in Punjab being held at HMV, Jalandhar.

Jalandhar, February 6, 2015: The Department of Psychology and Economics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya jointly organised ICSSR sponsored seminar on Drug Epidemic in Punjab – Instigating Factors Treatment and Rehabilitation Programmes. 

The Chief Guest of the seminar was DIG PAP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.  The resource persons were Senior Editor Nawan Zamana Jatinder Pannu and Eminent Drug Therapist from Canada Dr.Raghbir Singh Bains. 

Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj accorded a warm welcome to the guests.  She said that Drugs are the main reason for the deteriorating stage of the society.  She said that knowledge without character is meaningless.  Students should be educated and not literate.  Everyone should know the hazards of drug addiction.

Jatinder Pannu said that the lifestyle of the society is somewhere responsible for drug addiction.  Even the girls are indulging in drug rackets.  Family members are not giving proper time to children because of their busy schedule.  So, the children are involved in bad company and becoming drug addicts. 

Eminent Drug therapist Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains said that the root cause of drug addiction should be found.  He said treatment of drug addiction is possible but its cure is very difficult.  The reason of more than 50% divorces is drug addiction.  He said that drug addiction is not a moral failure, rather it is a disease. 

Chief Guest of the occasion DIG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said that supply of demand line of drug rackets should be cut off.  Govt. and Police is taking all necessary steps to eradicate the problem of drugs from the society.  The will power of an addict should also be strong to leave the drugs. 

On this occasion, some victims of drug were also present who shared their experiences and after their treatment in rehabilitation centres, they are now leading a normal life.  During the seminar, HOD Psychology & Coordinator Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Convener Ashmeen Kaur, Co Convener Shallu Batra, Dean Academics Meenakshi Syal and other teachers were also present.  In this seminar, more than 700 students of the college and different schools were also present.
