Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur DPS Kharbanda, who alongwith other senior officials had accompanied the team, said, "The process to transfer the remaining six acres land shall be completed within a week, however it was upto the PGI team to decide on the final site."

Ferozepur, October 7, 2014: A twelve member high level team headed by Dr J S Thakur, from PGI, Chandigarh visited Ferozepur today to inspect the basal requirements for setting up a satellite centre at Industrial Training Centre (ITI), Ferozepur.
Er DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur said that the survey team has found the land at ITI fit for setting up satellite centre of PGI. He said all the formalities to transfer this land to Health Department has been completed and later the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MH&FW) shall transfer this land to PGI.
Dr. J S Thakur, while speaking to the media persons said that   Er. P S Saini and Er. Trisha, member of the inspection team shall send a detailed report to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MH&FW) and after receiving a nod from the Centre Government, the construction work of PGIMER shall begin.
Parminder Singh PInki, MLA, Ferozepur, who had played an instrumental role for this project, said that it is a memorable day for the residents of this border region and that will really give new flip to the future of this hitherto backward border area. He said that the setting up of PGI Centre at Ferozepur has the potential to give a major fillip to the healthcare facilities in the hitherto neglected border region.
Earlier in 2013, a team of doctors from PGI had conducted a survey in which they had strongly recommended the need of setting up health facility that can provide specialist training and teaching services. Even after recommendation from PGI team and approval from the MH&FW, the project was hanging in abeyance due to non-availability of land.
Just before the Lok Sabha Elections, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal later had approved a prime chunk of land near ITI for setting up PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur. However there was an inordinate delay in the process to transfer that land despite his approval. Sources said that out of the 16 acres chunk identified near ITI for which CM had given nod, only 10 acres of land was transferred to the health ministry but remaining 6 acres could not be mutated by the PUDA in time. Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda, who alongwith other senior officials had accompanied the team, said that the process to transfer the remaining six acres land shall be completed within a week, however it was upto the PGI team to decide on the final site, he said. DC said that in case it was required, another 8 acres of adjoining land near ITI could be provided for this project for residential purposes.
