Chandigarh, May 26, 2015: Haryana School Education Department has issued guidelines regarding student attendance in schools and monthly assessments tests.
While giving this information here today, a spokesman of the department said that it has been decided that the names of those students who remain absent from the schools for seven working days consecutively, would be struck off from the admission register of the school.
He said that such students would be registered in the dropout category in a separate register. Efforts would be made to bring such students back to the school. If these students re-apply for admission during the academic session, the School Head would admit them in the school immediately, he added. It has been observed during District level inspections of schools that there is a sharp difference between actual attendance and the student enrollment in government schools. The Teacher Unions in their meeting with the department have also stated that the parents of students who remain absent often were not serious about their child’s attendance in the school.
The spokesman said that monthly assessments tests have been conducted in all government schools of the State in the month of January, February and March 2015. The results of these monthly tests have been uploaded on the website of the department that is www.harprathmik.gov.in. He said that the average number of students who appeared in these monthly tests was 94 per cent while 98 per cent of the schools uploaded the data on the departmental web portal.
He said that a serious view has been taken of the students who were absent during these monthly tests. It has, therefore, been decided that the students who remain absent during these monthly tests would not be entitled to the benefit of scholarship or incentives being provided by the department with effect from the date of test which they fail to take. If a student did not take the monthly test for a valid reason, he or she might re-appear in the test after requesting the class or subject teacher. He or she would only be entitled for the scholarship or incentives when his or her test assessment result has been uploaded by the teacher concerned after taking the monthly test, he further added.
He said that the schools that did not upload the monthly test results on the departmental web portal timely, the salary of the Schools Head would be withheld temporarily and the same would be released only after uploading of the test results as per procedure defined. The School Head wound only draw his or her salary after certifying to the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) of the school that the monthly test assessment result has been uploaded as per instructions. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
