Kurukshtra (Haryana), November 16, 2014: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today directed the concerned officers to generate awareness among the people about significance of having a bank accounts so that the benefit of various social security pensions could be directly deposited in their accounts.

The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting of senior officers of district Kurukshetra in Kurukshetra today. He said, this would not only ensure transparency but also keep a check on irregularities in the distribution system.

He said that within next couple of months, beneficiaries would get pension directly through their bank accounts. Therefore, it is the duty of officers to motivate the people to open bank accounts in their nearest bank branches. He said that recently a scam in the distribution of old age pension has been unearthed in district Karnal and added that similar checking would also be carried out in other districts of the State also.

The Chief Minister said that the officers should remain sensitive towards the problems of the people and give them a patient hearing. He said that their aim should be to ensure that the benefit of various welfare schemes reach the grass root level and this could only be possible when they would maintain a dialogue with them. He said that it has been found that people were not getting the benefit which they truly deserved. Our aim should be to serve the people, he added.

Quoting the example of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, who described himself as  ‘ Pradhan Sewak’ (Principal Servan) instead of a Prime Minister, the Chief Minister said that we should also work with the same spirit. He also directed the officers to convene the meeting of Gram Sabhas at regular intervals so as to ensure the maximum participation of people in the development works

Manohar Lal also expressed his concern over the manner in which some people think about the Government saying that  the society has divided into two sections that is the ruler and the ruled and this has created a sense of mistrust among the people about the government. He said that the present State Government has already initiated steps to bring about a change and restore trust of the people. He also directed the officers to suggest a formula to enhance to recovery of electricity bills and minimize line losses which are about 80 to 85 per cent in rural areas and 20-40 per cent in urban areas.

In the meeting the Chief Minister also stressed on ensuring the supply of canal water up to tail end and construction of separate toilets for girls and boys in schools and colleges. 

In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner  Nikhil Gajraj apprised the Chief Minister that there were about one lakh beneficiaries of various social security pension schemes in the district of which a maximum of 66,000 beneficiaries were of Old Age Allowance, 25,000 of widow and destitute pensions, 7,621 of the handicapped pension scheme and 6,118 of destitute children scheme. Similarly, out of targeted 9.64 lakh Adhaar Cards, 8.37 lakh such cards have so far been prepared.

Nikhil Gajraj also gave brief presentation on the progress of various development works in district.

MP Kurukshetra Raj Kumar Saini, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment  Krishan Kumar Bedi, MLA Thanesar Subhash Sudha and MLA Ladwa Dr Pawan Saini, IG Karnal Range  Hanif Qureshi, SP  Simardeep Singh and senior officers of district administration were also present.
