Gian Sagar Hospital cleans village Fatehpur Garhi Swasth Bharat Abhiyaan

Village Fatehpur Garhi being cleaned under the Swasth Bharat Abhiyaan by Gian Sagar Hospital .

Chandigarh, November 14, 2014: Close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, the Gian Sagar College and Hospital scrubbed clean village Fatehpur Garhi on outskirts of Rajpura under its Swasth Bharat Abhiyaan.
Chairman and Senior Oncologist Dr Barjinder Singh of the institute said that the keeping in view the unhygienic conditions prevalent in village,s the college decided to adopt this village, involve its people and clean the village that has population of 800 people.
“The village comes under village adoption scheme of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital. Under this a team of eight doctors of various specialties visited door-to-door for the OPD’s of the villagers residing in the village. The referred patients were provided free bus service, along with the discount on their procedures and investigations and as well as pharmacy, which extended up to 15 discounts,” he said.
Having completed the free medical services as a part of its adoption scheme, the team of Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital thereafter took up the gargantuan task of cleaning and tidying up the village. General Manager, Marketing Natasha Chopra added when team reached the village, surroundings and sewer system was in pathetic state. “Village’s pits were full of polybags, waste lay strewn and there were bushes along the road. The drains overflowed with sewer water, which formed puddles on road. In absence of proper bins for dumping garbage, the waste was strewn around in the village," she said.
Teams were divided and places were allotted, so that the teams can work efficiently and effectively. For this a team eleven members were sent to the village. After all the formalities and authorities taken from the sarpanch of the village, the team started its two days task of cleaning the whole village from one corner to another.
Time to time villagers were given knowledge about cleanliness, about cleaning the places, keeping the roads clean. A meeting was organized with sarpanch in order to clarify people about importance of maintaining hygiene. Lectures on waste management shall be organized from time to time for the villagers as a part of orientation.
Along with the villagers, team from Gian Sagar Medical College worked hard, devoting their time and drained off their sweat  Drains were cleaned, big piles of garbage were taken off to the places where all the garbage was thrown Gian Sagar shall also be providing garbage bins to the village, so that the villagers throw all the trash into the bins. He added that institute aims at adopting more villages in similar way.
