Ludhiana, March 24, 2013: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tewari has declared that Food Security Bill will soon become a reality. The Bill has a provision of providing Rice, Wheat and other food grains at very cheaper rates to the people.

Addressing the gathering before distributing ration to over 500 poor and needy and destitute persons in the Pracheen Gaushala of Ludhiana today, he added the Cabinet had given its nod to the modified Food Security Bill last week and same was reintroduced in the Lok Sabha last Friday. He expressed hope that the Parliament will soon pass this Bill, under this Bill 67% population living below and above poverty line the rural & urban areas will get Rice and Wheat at the very nominal rates of Rs. 3 and Rs. 2 Per Kg. respectively and other food grains at the rate of Rupee 1 Per Kg. Each family will have legal right to get a minimum of 20 Kg. food grains per month at these rates.

Appreciating the role played by Helping Hand Youth Welfare Association which arranged ration distributed today, Sh. Tewari said after the Food Security Bill is implemented such Associations would not have to contribute ration for the poor and would rather be able to utilize their resources for other welfare works of the society.

On this occasion Rakesh Pandey, Surinder Dawar- all MLAs, Senior PPCC leader and DCC (U) President Pawan Dewan also addressed. The President of the Helping Hand Youth Welfare Association Tarun Jain, Vice President Sunny Kapoor and the President of Prachin Gaushala Sham Sunder Sapra presented Mementos to and Manish Tewari, and Pawan Dewan and others.

Hemraj Aggarwal, Parminder Mehta, Sanjay Talwar, Vinod Thapar, Harish Kairpal, Mahinder Narang, Sunny Kainth, Rohit Pahwa, Kewal Malhotra, Vicky Dutta, Sita Ram Shankar, Vipan Vinayak were also present on this occasion.

Earlier, a delegation of Aryuvedic Drug Manufacturers Association led by its President Ashwani Gupta and others met and Tewari and submitted a memorandum demanding a review of Excise Duty structure on MRP basis on Aryuvedic Medicines as proposed in this year’s Union Budget. Tewari gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that he would take up their demands with the Union Finance Ministry.

Later in the afternoon, Tewari paid obeisance at the Gurudwara Nanaksar Manjhila Jhorda where the Centenary Birthday celebrations of Baba Ishar Singh are being celebrated.
