FIEO would like to forge stronger bi lateral trade relations especially in potential sectors with Italy: FIEO –Eastern Region

FIEO organized an interactive session with Mr Damiano Francovigh, Consul General, Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata today with exporters. Mr Nari Kalwani, Regional Chairman, FIEO,Eastern Region stated that the total trade between India and Italy in the period April to February, 2016-17 had been USD 7809.63 mn out of which exports from India to Italy comprised of USD 4287.91 mn and imports of USD 3521.71 mn and it was encouraging to note that items such as leather, textiles , chemicals, Jute products, Engineering items, marine products are already being exported to Italy.

The exporters of rubber sector enquired about the potential for ??rubber products in Italy while the exporters of fresh vegetables expressed interest in setting up subsidiary company in Italy. Mr Damiano Francovigh, Consul General gave a detailed presentation on Italy and its business environment. Answering to the queries of the exporters he assured them of every possible guidance and informed that there was potential trade to grow in sectors such as food processing, technology, infrastructure.

Besides exporters from various sectors, the interactive session was attended by members from Indo Italian Chamber of Commerce, Export promotion councils, senior officials from DGFT, Kolkata, Kolkata Port Trust, Airport Authority, UCO Bank,State Bank.Exporters found the session very informative and helpful.
