FIELD DAY ON PAU HAPPY SEEDER: KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, ROPAR

Ludhiana, March 8, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized Field day on P.A.U.Happy Seeder at village Fatehgarh Viran. About 150 farmers participated in the field day and were encouraged not to burn the straw mulch. The farmers were informed about the P.A.U.happy seeder that creates complete inter-row mulch in pressed form simultaneously along with sowing with more stability and least vibration in the standing stubbles. Dr.Mahesh Narang, Agricultural Engineer from P.A.U told the farmers that straw mulch contains important nutrients such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Sulphur and other minor nutrients, and incorporating the straw into the field is very beneficial. He also informed that sowing with PAU Happy seeder is cheapest way of sowing. He also said that some main points should be kept in mind while using Happy Seeder, which are that the soil moisture in the field should be sufficient and that it is compulsory to spread the loose straw. Dr. Narang also informed that now S.M.S. will be attached with every combine, by which sowing of wheat with happy seeder can be done in a more efficient way. Dr. Harinder Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK, Ropar told that 75 acres of area was sown with Happy Seeder by the KVK, under NICRA project and it is expected to obtain potential yield from this crop. He told that the less problem of lodging was observed in the wheat sown with happy seeder. Many farmers also shared their experience on happy seeder. Mr. Amrik Singh, farmer, said that the flag leaf in the happy seeder sown wheat was comparatively much wider than the flag leaf of wheat sown by conventional method. Mr. Harpreet Singh, farmer observed negligible appearance of weeds in the wheat sown with happy seeder. Sarpanch of viilage Fatehpur, Mr. Karnail Singh informed that he has sown 35 acres area of wheat using happy seeder and is fully satisfied with it. Dr. Ajit Singh, A.O., Dr. Gurkirpal Singh Bala, A.D.O. and Dr. Manpal Singh, A.E.O. were also present. They advised farmers to take the detailed bill of the seeds or pesticides whenever any purchase is made. Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Co-PI, NICRA, KVK Ropar, thanked farmers to adopt the new technologies under NICRA project and also advised farmers to form groups for cultivation of different crops, purchase of machines etc, so that cost of cultivation can be reduced.
