FIELD DAY ON GOBHI SARSON

Ludhiana, February 22, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh sahib organized Field day on Gobhi saron at village Chaurwala on 22.2.2017 at the residence of progressive farmers S. Hardeep Singh. The farmers were encouraged to grow PAU recommended varieties of Gobhi sarson. About 70 farmers of villages viz. Chaurwala, Badochi Kalan, Attapur and Panjoli (adopted by KVK, Ropar) participated in the field day. They were told about the importance of health benefits of using Canola oil. They were advised to grow Canola Gobhi sarson by using organic method of growing for producing chemical residue free crop. The farmers producing Canola Gobhi sarson interacted with the scientific staff of KVK for obtaining technical knowledge. The farmers gave feedback on the very good performance of the Gobhi sarson of PAU, Ludhiana, especially the variety GSC 7. The farmers further demanded such improved varieties for these adopted villages by KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib. They were promised to make available the good quality seed of various crops in addition to the Gobhi sarson.

Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (Trg.) told farmers to come forward to conduct demonstrations on Gobhi sarson and advanced technologies for higher production with reduced cost. Dr. Navjot Kaur Dhillon (Plant Breeding) discussed different recommended varieties of Rapeseed and mustard, Ms. Reet Verma (Plant Pathology) discussed the plant protection measures of oilseed crops and Dr. Manisha Bhatia (Home science) gave first hand information on nutritional benefits of Canola oil. The farmers were advised to adopt PAU techniques for higher productivity and nutritional security. The sarpach of village chaurwala S. Harbhajan Singh thanked the entire scientist for encouraging lectures. Later on farmers were taken to the field of S. Pushpinder Singh to show the frontline demonstration on gobhi sarson.
