FARMERS PROTEST OVER STUBBLE BURNING

Ferozepur, September 29, 2017: Hundreds of farmers led by Kisan Sangharsh Committee (Punjab) blocked the railway track in Ferozepur today.
As per information available several important trains including Shaheed Express from Amritsar to Jaynagar (Train No.14674), Chattisgarh Express from Amritsar to New Delhi (Train No.18238), Gondwana Express from Amritsar to Chandigarh (Train No.12412), Amritsar-Hawrah Express from Amritsar to Hawrah (Train No.13050), Golden Temple Express from Amritsar to Mumbai (Train No.12904), Amritsar Dehradun Express from Amritsar to Dehradun (Train No. 14632), Bathinda Jammutawi Express from Bathinda to Jammu Tawi (Train No.19225), Punjab Mail Express from Ferozepur to Mumbai (Train No.12138) and Satluj Express from Ferozepur to Ludhiana (Train No.14630) were cancelled and eleven other trains were short terminated in Ferozepur Railway Division .

Satnam Singh Punnu, State President, Kisan Sangharsh Committee said both Captain Amarinder Singh led Congress government and Narinder Modi led NDA government are “anti-farmers”. “The state government has imposed a fine of Rs. 2500 to Rs. 15000 but no policy has been framed which could guide the farmers how to store stubble”, said Union leaders.
The union leaders also demanded a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the family members of the farmers who commit suicide.
The farmers had blocked the railway traffic at Basti Tankan Wali Railway Crossing due to which even the normal traffic remained stranded and the commuters had to bear the brunt.
