FACT: Highest number of AIDS affected in Amritsar

Ferozepur, December 2, 2012: A seminar was organised at World AIDS Day at Civil Hospital, Ferozepur, which was presided over by Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Irrigation Minister, Punjab.

Sekhon, in his address said, the whole of the world is worried about the AIDS and as per the estimate, in India itself, there are about 24 lakh AIDS patients.  It has taken its place in Punjab also and there are about 60,000 patients of HIV affected.  The highest number of AIDS affected is in Amritsar followed by Patiala 4,363, Ludhiana 3,467 and Jalandhar 3,600 and in Ferozepur are 1,079 HIV positive patients.

 Sekhon said, the government alone cannot do anything to eradicate the HIV disease and for this people themselves have to come forward to know about this chronic disease.

Dr. Gurdit Singh Sodhi, Civil Surgeon, said, Health department is organising HIV/Aids awareness campaign from time to time in the school, colleges, truck unions, auto riksha unions besides arranging seminars at public places.

On this occasion, Dr.G.S.Dhillon, Dr.Tarnpal Kaur Sohdi, Dr.Vanita Bhullr, Dr.Talwar, Dr.Pardep Aggarwal, Manidner Kaur, mass media officer and in good number of students of nursing college and representatives of various NGOs were present.
