Ludhiana: There is no short cut to success. Life requires thorough preparation and the teachers, the real nation builders, do spend much time in preparations before offering their best in the classes. BCM Senior Secondary, School, 32-A, is known for providing the best learning opportunities to its students as well as teachers. With the purpose of optimum utilisation of summer vacation the school organised a plethora of activities and grooming sessions for its teachers who started their day with ritual Hawan and then participated in book reading, writing, Kooh Sports & other educational and recreational activities.
HAWAN CEREMONY May 30 – 4 June
By chanting of mantras and offerings to Gods through fire, one’s chakras are blessed with divine revitalizing and rejuvenating energy. Positive vibes permeate in the atmosphere leading to positive thoughts, words and actions paving the way for further success. To instill these vibes in the aura, teachers attended Hawan ceremony daily from 7:30 am to 8:30 am.
READING SESSIONS May 31
The best part of teaching profession is that one remains a student all through one’s life and enjoys reading books that not only enhances knowledge but also gives us much needed break from the maddening crowds. The teachers enjoyed peaceful moments of reading in relaxing atmosphere of the school libraries which are enriched with more than 35000 books.
KOOH SPORTS June 1 – 2
A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. To shake off the atomies of exertion & exhaustion from the minds & bodies of the teachers an invigorating session of physical activities was conducted on June 1 and 2 by India’s most comprehensive and scientific sports program, KOOH Sports, which aims to rekindle love for physical sports among the masses. All the teachers participated actively and enthusiastically.
SEMINARS , WORKSHOPS AND COUNSELLING SESSIONS:
Work Shop By the Tribune - (30 May)
In collaboration with the Tribune Mr. Vivek Sharma and Ms. Soni from ‘Sethi Study Circle’ discussed the issues of ‘Stress Intonation’. The resource person answered the teachers’ queries about how to stay stress-free while working under pressure of meeting the dead-lines.
Counseling sessions with the school Counselor Dr. Renu Gupta - (31 May)
Since the time of Panchtantra & Aesop, story-telling has been one of the best tools of teaching. The School Counselor Dr. Renu Gupta shared with the teachers how to do effective story narration in the classes. She lay stress that concepts should be co related to different stories and explained to students.
Work Shop By the HT (2 June)
In collaboration with the HT, Mr. Vivek Sharma and Ms. Soni from ‘Sethi Study Circle’ discussed the issues of ‘Conflict Management’. He discussed the reasons (clash of goals, interdependence, threat to needs) of rising conflicts at the work-place and offered possible solutions too like development of interests & concerns. He further through practical activities brought home the idea of how to communicate effectively and handle and resolve conflicts among students.
Oxford University Press Work Shop (3 & 4 June)
Ms. Tarundeep Kaur (Consulting Psychologist at Fortis) put forth the most challenging question to the teachers in her address that, “Do we teach or educate?” On day two Dr. Mandeep Ajrawat addressed the teachers about “Effective Communicative Skills”.
Workshops by The School Principal (2 June & 4 June)
The school Principal Sh. D.P.Guleria himself addressed the staff members and shared valuable tips about “Class Room Management”. While addressing the staff he stated that “It is easy to reach at the top but to remain there constant efforts are needed.” Further, he inspired the teachers to continue good work for the betterment of the students as well as for the society. He emphasized on critical introspection, setting some ground rules in the classroom and standardization of formatives and summative.
CBSE Workshop (3 & 4 June)
Mam Rashmi Ahluwalia (Principal Montessori School, Pathankot) and Ms. Anuja (Principal DAV School, Sector 15, and Chandigarh) as experienced CBSE resource persons addressed the teachers’ queries about CCE (Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation) pattern of studies & exams. Teachers enjoyed various fun filled activities like role plays and games conducted during these workshops.
