Ethniq Desi, an online marketplace for curated ethnic fashion for the contemporary Indian woman, has partnered with Fair Trade India, an organization with a large network of weavers and artisans to promote fair trade between consumers and weavers. Founded less than a year ago by Sreerekha Madivala and Rajini Jagadish Iyengar, ethniq.desi is popular among women for its beautiful collection of ethnic clothing spanning across the country.
The association with Fair Trade India will ensure the creation of a consumer market for fair trade products in India, helping artisans gain a global platform to exhibit their skills and obtain true value for their talent, and also ensuring consumers can choose from a wide range of products from all over India at a fair price. “we have always sought the best for both, the weaver/artisan community and the consumers. This partnership with Fair Trade India will help us better achieve a win-win for both our stakeholders. And ties with our ethos of sustainable business practices.”says Sreerekha Madivala, CEO and founder of Ethniq Desi.
The partnership will further optimise the supply chain and bring consumers closer to producers of high quality clothing. Aside from wider range and affordable prices, consumers can buy in good conscience, knowing that they are helping conserve local arts and traditions and improving livelihoods.
“We wanted to make a difference through everyday choices by ensuring that the products you buy, enable the producers to share the benefits of trade,” says Rajini, the co-founder. To This, adds Mr. Mallikarjuna Iytha, president of fair trade India, “Fair Trade Forum-India is happy to join hands with Ethniq desi. Weavers and artisans from various crafts and handloom clusters across India ensure Fair Trade practices will be connected to conscious consumers through Ethniq Desi. We wish Ethniq Desi team a great success. We hope this partnership will go in a long way in empowering thousands of skilled artisans of India”.
