Ferozepur, July 12, 2017: Several revelations have been made regarding the arrest of two gangsters Gurpreet Singh Gopy and Avtar Singh Pamma, who were arrested by the police yesterday at Village Kohala in Ferozepur.
In a press release issued today the police has claimed that both these accused including Ashok Kumar Vohra alias Amna were the main accused behind two untraced cases involving the killings of Gurdev Singh (31 years), a Dera Saccha Sauda follower, in Village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala (District Faridkot) on 13th June 2016 and that of Baba Lakha Singh alias Lakhwinder Singh alias Pakhandi Baba, a controversial religious preacher in Hanumangarh district Rajasthan on 23rd November, 2016.
As per information available, in two separate intelligence led coordinated operations conducted by the district police forces of Nawanshehar, Ferozepur and Kapurthala in Kohala Village (PS Mallanwala, Ferozepur) and Bhanolanga Village (PS Sadar, Kapurthala), Punjab police apprehended two members of inter-state militants module yesterday (July 11, 2017) namely Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy, Avtar alias Pamma son of Nirmal Singh, residents Village Kohala, PS Mallanwala. Unfortunately, another suspect in the abovementioned two killings, Ashok Kumar Vohra alias Amna Seth (26) son of Des Raj, resident of Kohala managed to escape under the cover of darkness, during the raid at Village Kohala early morning yesterday. Two weapons have been recovered from the accused including a .12 bore rifle and .32 bore revolver, a white color Swift Car (Registration number CH 01 BG 41 14) which was used in the killing of Gurdev Singh and Baba Lakha Singh in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala District Faridkot and in Rajasthan was also recovered by Ferozepur police today. This car is registered in the name of Amna Seth.

Both Gurpreet alias Gopy and his close associate Amna Seth, who also hails from the same Kohala Village, had recently acquired two new licensed weapons on Arms license issued to them in 2016. Preliminary enquiries have revealed that the licenses were issued on the recommendation of a former MLA from Ferozepur (Rural) constituency.
As per the police statement, investigations carried out so far have revealed that one Jaswant Singh Kala resident of Village Sone Wala (PS Sadar Shri Muktsar Sahib) along with Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy, Avtar Singh alias Pamma and Amna Seth, was one of the key members of the militant module which carried out the above killing which had gone untraced so farThe killing of Gurdev Singh (31 ), a grocery shopkeeper, had taken place about an year after the unfortunate incident in Village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala, where the Guru Granth Sahib ji had gone missing under mysterious circumstances from the Village Gurdwara in Village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala on 1st June, 2016. When the “Ang” of the holy book were recovered from the nearby Bargari Village subsequently. It had let widespread resentment among the people of the state. On the other hand, the attack on Gurdev Singh had led to protest by thousands of Dera Sachha Souda supporters and his cremation had to be done under heavy police presence.
Baba Lakha Singh alias Lakhwinder Singh was a controversial self styled Godman, who had declared himself to be an embodiment of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Originally from Abohar, he had fled to Rajasthan after word had spread about his blasphemous assertions and proclamations and there had been widespread protests by the Sikh community.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that various other targets were also on the radar of this module. And they had also carried out a recce of some of these targets. The target selection was designed to drive a wedge among various religious groups/ communities and disturb the atmosphere of peace and communal harmony of the state.
