DPIIT-IPR Chair, PU organizes a one-day Workshop on Business Plan Around Invention: Key to ToT/Techpreneurship

Chandigarh, May 8, 2024: The DPIIT-IPR Chair, Panjab University in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST)- Technology Enabling Centre, Panjab University and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Punjab, organized a workshop on “Crafting a Successful Business Plan:Unleashing Innovation for Transfer of Technology (ToT) and Technopreneurship,” on 8th May, 2024 at the university premises. The workshop targeted to specific audience i.e. faculty members and researchers which have either patent granted or filed. The aim of the workshop was to provide a roadmap, guiding inventors through the intricate journey of transforming their innovative ideas into viable products or services.35faculty members and researchers attended the workshop. 

Dr Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology graced the occasion. Professor Indu Pal Kaur, DPIIT-IPR Chair, Panjab University and former Chairperson UIPS extended a cordial welcome to the audience. She said that the end goal of this workshop is to equip the participants to eventually bring to the market either themselves as a start-up or find a suitable industry partner to bring each of the innovations yet locked in their minds, brains, labs, files or resumes for the benefit of the mankind and society at large.


In the forenoon session, talks were delivered by Dr Pawan Kumar, Associate Director, Plaksha University, Mohali, Punjab, Pune, Mr Piyush Garg, Vice President, CEED, Chitkara University, Punjab and Dr Manu Sharma, Assistant Professor, UIAMS, Panjab University, Chandigarh focusing on ‘how to do market research for innovation’, ‘how to create start-up around your patent’ and ‘how to forecast Return on Investment (RoI) for start-up’.

The afternoon session included talks by industry experts –DrJaspreet Singh Gulati, Director, Hitech Formulations ltd, Dr. Chetan Mittal, Chief R&D Officer, Tynor Orthotics Pvt Ltd, and Dr Pushvinder Jit Singh, Former Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Punjab and MD, M/s Tynor Orthotics Pvt. Ltd. on ‘how we successfully realised ToT with our academic patterners and takeaways’, ‘Strategizing IP to cash’ and ‘idea to cash’.

The workshop emphasised that understanding how to leverage patents to commercialize intellectual property and protect innovations is not just a legal consideration but a strategic imperative for businesses looking to thrive and stay ahead in today’s competitive markets.
 
Workshop ended with concluding remarks from Dr Dapinder Bakshi Joint Director, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Punjab and Professor Manu Sharma, Coordinator, DST-TEC, Panjab University. Dr Dapinder Bakshi mentioned that though there is an interest in both the academia and industry partners but we need to work on the ecosystem around trust, confidentiality and ethics. Professor Sharma indicated that TEC will mentor and foster at least 4 startups and 4 ToT.
