Jalandhar, July 28, 2016: CT Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CTIPS) organised “World Hepatitis Day” under the patronage of CT Group of Institutions at its Shahpur Campus on Thursday.
Dr. Dhiraj Bhatia from Global Hospital, Jalandhar shared his views about World Hepatitis Day. The theme for this year’s global campaign is Elimination Strategy for Viral Hepatitis. Dr. Bhatia explained that hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver which may further cause liver failure and cancer claiming millions of deaths of the patients worldwide. Hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D and E are the most common cause of hepatitis in the world but other infections, toxic substances (e.g. alcohol, certain drugs) and autoimmune diseases can also cause hepatitis. The symptoms of hepatitis include fatigue, nausea, poor appetite, belly pain, a mild fever, or yellow skin or eyes (jaundice). Hepatitis can be treated by proper vaccination and by adopting healthy life style. People with this type of infection are often advised to get adequate rest, drink plenty of fluids, get enough nutrients, and avoid alcohol.
Dr. Dhiraj Bhatia told that Millions of people across the world are taking part in World Hepatitis Day, to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, and to call for access to treatment and better prevention programs.
