Ludhiana, March 24, 2017: On the occasion of Martyrs' Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, DMCH Youth Cub organized two-days "eye donation camp" from 23rd and 24tMarch, 2017 in General OPD and Eye OPD Block of the hospital.
Members of DMCH Youth Club paid homage to the Martyrs by garlanding the statues of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the Jagraon Bridge, followed by Eye Donation Camp.
DMCH Youth Club- President Gurjot Singh Gill welcomed the participants and motivated people to take inspiration from the Martyrs who gave their lives for our country and take the pledge to donate their eyes after death.
Dr G.S. Bajwa ( Professor & Head of Ophthalmology) gave a lecture and educated everyone on the procedure and importance of eye donation. He told that pledged donors can donate their eyes within 4 hours after death. The procedure involves donation of only cornea (outer layer) of eye, which doesn't lead to any disfigurement of face.
Dr. Sanjeev Uppal (Faculty Coordinator & HoD Plastic Surgery) emphasized on the importance of donation of eyes and motivated everyone to be a part of this noble cause.
Dr. Vandana Midha, Ms Navreet Kaur (Secretary, DMCH Youth Club) and other club members were present on the occasion. More than 30 people signed the Eye Donation Pledge Forms to donate their eyes after death, making the camp a great success
