Ludhiana, July 23, 2013: Dr. Suman Puri, Associate Professor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana was invited to give an oral presentation at the 29th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) held at London, United Kingdom from July 7 to 10.

The presentation entitled, “The impact of Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) on subsequent fertility when used as a substitute for invasive operations like myomectomy and in obstetrical emergencies” was delivered at the scientific programme of the International conference.

The meeting was attended by delegates from all over the World.  It was an honour to be given the opportunity for the oral presentation as only 223 papers were selected out of the 1,589 abstracts that were submitted from all over the World after a tough method of selection on the basis of scores from three reviewers marking blinded abstracts.  The rate of abstract acceptance was just 14% and out of total abstracts only two were accepted from India for Oral presentation.

The technique of Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) has been extensively used by the Department of Obst. & Gynae and done by Dr. Bishav Mohan, Senior Interventional Cardiologist at Hero DMC Heart Institute, for the management of various obstetrical and gynaecological conditions with great success.

According to Dr. Suman Puri the subject generated a lot of interest in the delegates especially as a treatment modality in patients with obstetrical emergencies and their follow up regarding the infertility status.  It is also a good alternative to surgery in order to preserve the function of fertility.  The conference had topics including embryology, reproductive endocrinology, female infertility and the endometrium.
