Ludhiana, September 14, 2018: District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal has banned the installation of submersible pumps and tubewells in the Ludhiana city (within Municipal Corporation limits), Pakhowal block and Khanna block of the district. These orders have been issued to check the declining ground water table.

In these ban orders issued under section 144 of CrPC, the District Magistrate stated that the ground water table in Ludhiana district is declining and if it continues at the same pace, there would be acute shortage of water in the coming years that would become a big problem. He stated that to check this issue, the Central Ground Water Authority has announced the Ludhiana city (within the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana limits), Pakhowal block and Khanna block as Notified area. He stated that there has been a complete ban on the installation of submersible pumps and tubewells in these areas.

He said that despite the ban, some people continue to install submersible pumps and tubewells in these areas without the permission of District Administration Ludhiana, which is totally illegal.

Exercising his powers under section 144 of CrPC, the District Magistrate has banned the installation of submersible pumps and tubewells in the Ludhiana city (within Municipal Corporation limits), Pakhowal block and Khanna block of the district.

The District Magistrate stated that the Commissioner of Police Ludhiana, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, Senior Superintendent of Police Ludhiana (Rural), and concerned Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPO’s) of the respective blocks would be responsible for the strict implementation of these ban orders.
