District Magistrate Bans Harvesting Of Wheat Using Combines At Night

Ludhiana, April 8, 2016: Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate Ludhiana Mr Ravi Bhagat, under section 144 of CrPC, has banned the harvesting of wheat crop with the help of combines at night time in Ludhiana district (excluding areas falling under the jurisdiction of Police Commissionerate, Ludhiana). The farmers can only harvest their crop using combines between 7 am to 7 pm. Mr Ravi Bhagat has informed that as the harvesting season has already started, usually the combines operate 24X7. He said crops absorb moisture during night due to dew which adversely affects its purchase by procurement agencies. Also, movement of combines for harvesting at night is risky and can cause fatal accidents. These orders would remain in force till July 3, 2016.
