Director Of Research, Dr Balwinder Singh Given Warm Send Off At PAU

Ludhiana, May 31, 2016: The Director of Research of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Balwinder Singh was given a warm send off on his superannuation today. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU and the deans, directors, heads and faculty of the University attended the farewell function.
In his speech, Dr Dhillon lauded Dr Singh for his 32 years of meritorious services at PAU. He said, “Dr Singh has been an able administrator and has discharged his duties at PAU very efficiently. He has been very cooperative and supportive throughout his career.” Dr Dhillon further said that Dr Singh’s outstanding research contributions, particularly to the field of entomology, would always be recognized in the years to come.
It may be mentioned that Dr Balwinder Singh has handled five competitive research projects and his 33 recommendations are included in the Package of Practices of PAU. Besides, he has the publication of 120 research papers, 14 book chapters, five review articles and four books to his credit. He has also presented 62 papers at various conferences. He has guided seven Ph.D. and five M.Sc. students as Major Advisor. He has also served as President, Indian Society for the Advancement of Insect Science and Vice President, Society of Pesticide Science India.
Not only this, under his leadership, Pesticide Residue Analysis Laboratory at PAU was upgraded by importing latest modern analytical instruments with a special grant of Rs 5 crore from the State Government. Recently, the laboratory has been accreditated by the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL) and it is the first laboratory among State Agricultural Universities to be awarded such recognition. Dr Singh is also a recipient of Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship, and Fellowship by Indian Society for the Advancement of Insect Science.
On the occasion, Dr P.K. Khanna, Registrar; Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education; Dr (Mrs) Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; and other senior officials and faculty of PAU wished Dr Singh a healthy and wealthy post-retirement life.
