DIGITAL MAPS of wardbandi of villages would be online by March 31

Chandigarh, March 5, 2013: Digital maps of villages and wardbandi would be uploaded on website of Rural Development and Panchayat Department by March 31, 2013 with a view to conduct fair and smooth Panchayat elections in the state.

This was disclosed by Surjit Singh Rakhra, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab here today.

In a press communiqué, he said that the state government has taken initiative to conduct Panchayat election through wardbandi, under which work for wardbandi has been completed as per votes of the villages. Total 81,500 wards have been constituted in the state. Digital maps of all villages are prepared and all wards are shown in these maps.

Rakhra said that earlier people used to get harassed in different offices for getting information of their wards; therefore department has taken initiative to prepare digital maps of villages and wards. He added that now anyone could get whole information about their wards with just click of a button as whole information would be available on department’s website. Minister said that this information would be uploaded on department’s website by March 31.

Rakhra said that Zila Parishid and Block Samiti elections would be conducted by May 15 and Panchayat elections by May 31 and all preparations are complete for these elections. He said that voter lists are being upgraded by the election commission and this work will be completed by the first week of April.
