Dhuri By Election: Thanks for cooperation!

Chandigarh, April 11, 2015: Punjab chief electoral officer V.K.Singh today said that aggregate 72.4 per cent voting has been recorded at Dhuri assembly constituency. He said that polling was peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booth.
Voting started at 8 am in the morning and completed by 5 pm. Except snag in 1 EVM which was replaced at the start of poll itself, all EVMs were constantly working without developing any snag at any polling station. As many as 166 polling stations were set up for about 1.51 lakh voters in Dhuri assembly constituency. He said that out of the total voters’ there are 80, 561 male voters and 71, 391 female voters in Dhuri constituency. Fate of 12 candidates has been sealed in the EVMs.          
V.K. Singh further said that the counting of votes for assembly by-election would take place on April 15, 2015 and the result would be declared on same day.
He said that district administration had made elaborate security arrangements for today’s polling. Large number of police personnel from Para Military Force and Punjab Police were deployed at all vulnerable points. He extended his gratitude towards all the political parties and thanked the pooling staff and police for enabling free and fair conduction of voting. CEO also congratulated the voters’ Dhuri constituency for ensuring peaceful conduct of elections.
Meanwhile 6 companies of Para military forces, 4 Flying squads and 4 static surveillance teams were also deployed for conducting peaceful by poll. He also said that two observers S.M. Sarkunde as General Observer and H.P. Meena as Expenditure Observer have also observed the poll on behalf of Election Commission of India on the directions of Election Commission of India.
Singh has directed the District Election Officer and RO for Dhuri by-poll to ensure that EVMs stored in appropriately guarded strong room in a fool proof manner. Nobody would have any access to the thoroughly guarded EVMs, said Mr. Singh. Although the candidates or their representatives are allowed to keep their own vigil along with the PMF.
