Consultants of Mind Plus lending a helping hand to the rural folks

Ludhiana, November 20, 2015: There has always been a stigma attached to mental health. Awareness about various psychiatric illnesses in rural population is abysmally low and about 80 percent of districts in India do not have even one psychiatrist in public service.  On the other hand, the rural population is falling prey to various mental problems like depression, drug addiction and others owing to declining rural economy, unemployment, peer pressure and unmet aspirations.  But healthcare providers like Mind Plus are reaching out to these people.
 
With an objective of mental health for all, participated in a mega camp in village Tunga Heri near Pakhowal Ludhiana. Mind Plus healthcare is a leading mental health care institute and has a premium rehabilitation centre, Mind Plus retreat  and a life-coaching centre, Mind First too.
 
Renowned and experienced consultants of Mind Plus, Dr. Ravinder Kala, Consultant Psychologist; Dr. A.K. Kala, Veteran consultant, Dr. Arpan Jain, MD, Psychiatry and Dr. Prateek Sharma, MD, Psychiatry consulted and counseled the drug addiction and psychiatry patients. Ishwar Singh, IG, Narcotic cell, Punjab was the chief guest at the camp.
 
Ishwar Singh told that after introducing 181 services, they have registered over 34000 cases against the drug peddlers. He appreciated the support of the informers in helping them identify these drug peddlers. He urged more and more people to contribute towards abolition of drug abuse by reporting any drug abuse happening around them on 181. He also informed that people can get an award of Rs. 10000 each for identification of drug peddlers. He also suggested people to take right treatment from experts for drug DE addiction and enrollment into an established rehabilitation centre to equip themselves to get back to the society.
 
Talking about the camp, Dr. Ravinder Kala, Consultant Psychologist, Mind Plus said, “In this camp we found that number of rural people are suffering from anxiety disorder which takes them to drug abuse. When underlying anxiety, stress and sadness are handled with psychological techniques, treating addictions become much easier. Family and patient counseling can integrate and improve inter personal relationships.”
 
“Mental health illnesses often ignored due to stigma in seeking help are take a serious form. WHO reports that 20% of Indian population will be suffering from at least one mental-health problem by 2020. We all understand that mental strength is the foundation of a happy life. Through these camps and our other endeavors, we are trying to add to the happiness quotient of the people and attempting at making India a healthy and happy country.” She further added.
 
Over 70 patients consulted various consultants at the camp. The camp was organised in association with rotary club.
