DEPUTATION of Mahavir Mandir Trust meets Municipal Zonal Commissioner

Ludhiana, March 18, 2013: A deputation of Mahavir Mandir Trust, Gur Mandi, Ludhiana under the presidentship of Pawan Sharma met Municipal Zonal Commissioner (Zone-A) Dr. Sumit Jharangal here on Monday, and presented him a memorandum.

The deputation apprised the Zonal Commissioner that Shree Mahavir Mandir in Gur Mandi was set up way back in the year 1947. The temple was under the management of the Mahavir Mandir Trust, they further revealed.

The zonal commissioner was further apprised that some shops were also constructed over the period, which were the part of the temple premises and the upper stories of the shops were being used for “sadhna” (meditation).

Further, the zonal commissioner was apprised that Ludhiana Municipal corporation was trying to get the shops demolished on the plea that these were illegal. Sharma regretted that the Corporation authorities had never thought of having talks with Trust in this regard. As a result, there prevailed resentment in the religious community.

Sharma asserted that the Corporation authorities should take into confidence Mahavir Mandir Trust before any kind of action, otherwise, the situation could took an ugly shape in case the religious sentiments of people were hurt in the future.

When contacted, Sharma told City Air News this evening that the zonal commissioner had assured them to call them for having table talks within 3-4 days. He said they had told zonal commissioner to provide them necessary documents, if required, in the future.
