Jalandhar, October 25, 2015: Computer Science Department of DAV College Jalandhar organized Video Conferencing on Networking, Chief speaker on the occasion was Dr Maninder Singh (Thapar University of Technology, Patiala), and was welcomed by Head of Computer Science Department Prof Nishchay Bahl and President of I T Forum Prof Lekha Jindal. In the video conference the chief guest talked about various aspects of networking and quoted "information technology, networking is the construction, design, and use of a network, including the physical (Cabling, Hub, Bridge, Switch, Router, and so forth)".
The selection and use of telecommunication protocol and computer software for using and managing the network, and the establishment of operation policies and procedures related to the network. He further talked about some of the different networks based on size are:
Personal area network, or PAN
Local area network, or LAN
Metropolitan area network, or MAN
Wide area network, or WAN
Computer Networking may be considered a branch of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering, since it relies upon the theoretical and practical application of the related disciplines. Network topology is the layout or organizational hierarchy of interconnected nodes of a computer network. Different network topologies can affect throughput, but reliability is often more critical. With many technologies, such as bus networks, a single failure can cause the network to fail entirely. In general the more interconnections there are, the more robust the network is; but the more expensive it is to install. In the world of computers, networking is the practice of interfacing two or more computing devices with each other for the purpose of sharing data. Computer networks are built with a combination of hardware and software. At the occasion Prof Nischay Behl (HOD Computer Science) quoted "such events add up to the practical skills, integrity and knowledge of the students and should be extensively conducted”.
