Criminal who attacked policemen nabbed in Delhi

New Delhi, July 16 (IANS) A criminal, carrying a reward of Rs.25,000 on his head, was arrested for twice attacking police teams three months ago, police said Wednesday.

Delhi Police arrested Rufsan, 23, a resident of Mewat in Haryana, from the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station Monday following a tip-off that he was fleeing to Mumbai to permanently shift his base.

"He is a member of a Mewati gang, led by one Abu Jar, which is being tracked since the intervening night of April 23-24, 2014 for attacking Delhi policemen twice in a day," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav.

Rufsan belongs to a poor family. To earn easy money, he joined hands with Jar and started cow lifting, slaughtering and robbery.

On the intervening night of April 23-24, the gang hit their vehicle against a Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle and escaped, leaving behind an injured Delhi Police constable in the New Friends Colony area of south Delhi.

A few hours later, the gang opened fire on a police team in the Jaitpur area of south Delhi when policemen tried to stop their vehicle.

The Crime Branch had arrested a gang member Jamshed, 35, just after the incident. He provided information about Rufsan, who was somewhere in Mumbai and working as an auto driver there.

A Delhi Police team went to Mumbai only to learn Rufsan was in Haryana. In Haryana, the police came to know the criminal was at the Nizamuddin railway station to catch a train for Mumbai. He was then arrested.
