CPI demands immediate arrest of officials responsible for death of two sewer men in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, September 19, 2016: The Communist Party of India has demanded immediate arrest of the officials responsible for the death of two sewer men on 16 September. It is a shear negligence and apathy towards human life that the sewer men were asked to go into the gutters without any safety kits, said Com Ramesh Rattan- City Secretary of the CPI and Com Gurnam Sidhu along with leaders of the Safai Labour Union Com Vijay Kumar and Com Sham Lal visited the family of the deceased.
They demanded immediate release of grant of Rs.10 Lakh to the grieved families and a permanent job to a family member.
Dr Arun Mitra, Assistant Secretary of District Unit of the party said that it is a shame that lakhs have been spent to purchase the machines for cleaning of the roads but not for the sewer pipes. This has been a cause of death of so many young lives every year. This must be stopped he said and mechanized system of cleaning of the sewer pipes should be ensured.
