Controversy over visit of student leader Kanahiya Kumar to Ludhiana

Ludhiana, October 22, 2016: On hearing the news of protest by a few advocates and fundamental Hindu organisations to the visit of student leader Kanahiya Kumar who is coming to Ludhiana to address the seminar on behalf of students which is being organised by Punjabi Sahit Akademi Ludhiana and Social Thinker Forum on the theme ‘Increasing cost of Education – Decreasing Jobs’ on October 23 at Punjabi Bhawan Ludhiana, the progressive organsations have shown concern. Among others who criticised included Padam Shri Dr Surjit Patar and Ex- Minister Punjab Shri Malkit Singh Dakha. The concerned organizations have appealed to the administration that they should perform their duty to maintain law and order and prevent hooliganism.
Dr Sukhdev Singh Sirsa – President, Dr Anoop Signh – Sr. Vice President and Dr Surjeet Singh - General Secretary Punjabi Sahit Academy Ludhiana, Dr Arun Mitra – Convener Social Thinkers Forum, Dr Gulzar Singh Pandher – Convener of the function and Shri M S Bhatia – Co Convener Social Thinkers Forum have condemned the threats by a few people. Main speakers are Prof. Tersem Bahiya – Chairman Punjab Educationists Forum and Kanahiya Kumar – AISF Leader and Former President JNU Students Union.
They said it is pertinent to note that no court of law has convicted Kanahiya Kumar for the alleged anti national slogans. It has been proved that the related video was doctored by some channel. Today a press conference was a called at Punjabi Bhawan Ludhiana in which Com DP Maur – General Secretary Joint Council of Trade Unions Ludhiana, Adv. Gurcharanjit, Varinder Coffee, Com Gurnam Sidhu – AITUC Leader, Youth Leader Kuldeep Singh Binder, Com Vijay Kumar – President Punjab Sewer Man Employees Union AITUC, Mahipal – President Disposal Worker Union MC Ludhiana, Dr Rajinder Pal Singh Aulukh – Secretary Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha, Tiger Singh, Ladoo Shah, Ramchander Yadav, Randhir Singh DHira, S P Singh addressed.
