5th Nature Guidance Camp organized at PGSC
Kapurthala, November 5, 2016: The conservation of natural resources viz. Rivers, lakes, bio-Diversity and ecology is a major need of the day. If we do not take action now to protect these resources from degradation then it will be too late. The Kapurthala district of Punjab has rich bio-diversity wherein Kanjali wetland support lot of flora and fauna, besides, the district has also National institute of Bio-energy which is creating awareness regarding usage of renewable energy sources like bio energy in the mass. Pushpa Gujral science City in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology has taken an initiative to bring students more closer to the nature and held five nature camps for Government School students of District Amritsar and SBS Nagar at Science City, Kapurthala. These were the views expressed by Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director Science City on the occasion fifth Nature Guidance camp at Science City. This event was jointly organized by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and PGSC Kapurthala. On this occasion he urged the students to plant more and more trees so as to maintain ecological balance. Explaining the role of trees and birds in human life, “If there will be no tree, we would no longer hear the chirping of birds as well as there will be no fresh air to inhale”. He added
Giving details of these camps he mentioned that four camps each of three days had already been organized successfully at PGSC wherein 50 students in each camp from districts of Amritsar and Sheed Bhagat Singh Nagar had participated. Dr. R.K Luna Additional Principal Chief Conservator (Retd.) of Forest provided a detailed Information regarding the wild life. Further, Dr. Lakhvir Singh from “Pehal” delivered a special lecture on natural resources and Madam Geetanjli from Harike educated the students about the water testing during the said five camps.
During the three days camp, first day students visited Science City galleries and Climate Change Theatre wherein they learnt their role to prevent Climate change and importance of natural resources, on the second day they visited National Institute of Bio- Energy Kapurthala to seek knowledge of bio-energy and renewable energy sources. On the third day, students went to Kanjli wetland and learnt biodiversity available in the natural resources.
