Ludhiana, June 19, 2014: Haemophilia is condition in which a specific clotting factor in the blood is missing making the body vulnerable to spontaneous bleeding into the joints as well as excessive bleeding to trauma. The only treatment available in the world is clotting factor concentrates (CFC).
Haemophilia a disease which is largely neglected by the medical community and the government. Given appropriate amount of prophylactic factors, patients can lead a normal life and be productive to the community.  When free clotting factor concentrate (CFC) supply is given in majority of the states in India, Punjab has still not approved for the same.  When in the developed countries, patients are taking part in physical sports, in Punjab, patients are becoming crippled and are bound to wheel chair due to frequent joint bleeds.
Innovation, Education and Advocacy remains the goal for the World Federation of Haemophilia and it is time Punjab wakes up to this call.
Christian Medical College, has an ongoing twinning programme Henry Ford Hospital Detroit, USA through the World Federation of Haemophilia and CMC Ludhiana has been recognized by Baxter as the Centre of Excellence in Comprehensive Haemophilia.  In the recently held World Haemophilia Congress 2014 at Melbourne, Australia, CMC and Henry Ford Hospital were given the as the “Twin of the year 2013” award.
