Ludhiana, December 21, 2015: Shri Avtar Singh, President & Shri Upkar Singh Ahuja, General Secretary CICU in a joint statement released today welcomed the Union Government decision of initiating “Startups” movement in January’ 2016 to make Prime Minister’s “Make-In-India” Dream Project a success.

They said that ‘Startups’ is a hot topic these days that was announced by the Prime Minister, Shri Narindra Modi on Independence Day.

They also stated that it is a good idea to generate employment, increase GDP and strengthening ‘Make-In-India” Program successful.   Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) is working on the modalities of the same.

CICU opines if the Governments resolve the below given industrial issues, on the one hand it will ensure the success of “Startups”, on the other hand; it will lead to create 250000 jobs in India by 2020 up from 80000 now, as per NASSCOM Report.

•         CICU suggests to take into consideration while finalizing the “STARTUPS” modalities that the cities like – Ludhiana and Jalandhar in Punjab are the results of MSME Startups Enterprises and only a few Large Units set are up in the State.  To groom “STARTUPS”, Departments must understand the issues of  Industry in India.

•         Land is one of the major road-block as the cost of Land is very high.  One cannot start a Unit in Non-industrial area.  If we view the past time in Ludhiana, people started small factories in residences and later on shifted to bigger places in Industrial Area.  But at present, it is not possible.  State Government should take appropriate steps to provide low cost Land to Entrepreneurs to start new Units.

•         Marketing & Branding for “Startups” will be the major concern for “Startups” as a customer needs Proven & Branded Product.  Creating Brand and popularizing them take years to years.  These lead to lower value and chances of failures also.  CICU strongly suggests the setting up of a Corpus for Branding & Making Logo for “Startups”.  Also rebate must be given on Central & States taxes at least for 3 years.  These steps could be the only solutions to help “Startups” Brand building.

•         Technology is also another road block.  Government should set up a Corpus Fund for “Startups” for Financing Technology to the Industry.

•         Registration from 23 Departments for setting up a new venture is also very tough to make “Startups” a success.  The government should take steps to reduce the modalities of registration for making “Startups” successful.  It is also suggested that the exercise for setting up new Unit should be hassles free, easily understandable & transparent so that new Entrepreneurs do not get fed up of the process of completing documents and running from department to department for getting recommendations & approvals.

•         CICU also requests the DIPP to look into all aspects of Business Modalities to make “STARTUPS” a success.

CICU is planning to establish a ‘Startups Desk’ at its Complex to support “STARTUPS” as CICU has already working on to groom Young Businessmen & has formed a Young Business Leaders Forum (YBLF).  Presently YBLF has the membership of about 250 organizations.
