Dharamshala, October 13, 2016: India has thrashed New Zealand by 3-0 in the recently concluded Test series. Now all eyes are on the ODI cricket with the first of five matches being held at Dharamshala's HPCA Stadium on Sunday. Teams lead by M S Dhoni and Kane Williamson, are reaching Dharamshala for this D/N ODI on Thursday to have net sessions here on Friday and Saturday. The weather here is cool and sunny, with Temp Max 24c and Min 14c on Sunday predicted.
The toss will have no role in the India –New Zealand first ODI of the series being played at Dharamshala on 16th of October. Stating this in HPCA Stadium today the Chief Pitch Curator Sunil Chouhan said that the Pitch here shall behave equally to both the teams through the 100 overs.”
He said that as this is the first day and night ODI here the due in the night could play a vital role for the team batting second He said, “The time due factor start here its play here almost 70-80 overs of the match could have gone, so it too shall have minor effect, if so ever is there. The time recorded for due these days are between 8pm -8.30pm.” The pitch shall have even bounce in the entire match.
So far India has played two (day time) ODI matches here. The first ODI was played between India and England in January 2013, which England won by 7 wickets. The second ODI was played between India and West Indies on 17 October 2014 in which India beat the West Indies by 59 runs.
New Zealand has never won a bilateral ODI series in India. The four series contested between the two teams in 1988, 1995, 1999 and 2010 were each won by the home team. The first of these was a 4-0 win for Dilip Vengsarkar's team over John Wright's tourists, following India's 2-1 victory in the Tests. India won by four wickets, five wickets, 53 runs and two wickets before the fifth match in Jammu was abandoned due to heavy rain.
Will Williamson's team ranked third in ODI cricket be able to buck the trend against India in bilateral? Or will Dhoni's India - one place behind in the rankings - make it five series wins over New Zealand?
