Ludhiana, January 9, 2013: Are you going to buy a new watch from the local market?
If so, please be careful. The new watch may be a fake one.
Yes. Fake wrist watches are available in the local market. This is evident from the fact that Police Division 1, Ludhiana, have recovered a huge quantity of such watches of international brands from the local shopkeepers dealing in watches.
According to available information, Surinder Mohan, SHO, police Division 1, Ludhiana conducted raids at two watch shops namely Pardhan Watch Company and Pawan Watch Company , both located near Clock Tower area, and recovered 1,800 fake wristwatches worth Rs 70 lakh.
The shop owners Gurdeep Singh and Pawan Kumar have been arrested. They were allegedly violating provisions of the Copy Right Act.
Police have also recovered some equipment and stickers of various US-made watches.
The raid was conducted following a complaint made by Ramesh Dutt, Director, Speed Network, Chandigarh.
Dutt had received a request from Tommy Hilfiger, US Polo and Calvin Klein that fake watches of their companies were being sold in the region.
The two shops were in wholesale business of the watches.
