Punjab Congress Committee (PPCC) celebrates 67th Independence Day at Congress Bhawan at Chandigarh on Thursday.

Chandigarh, August 15, 2013: Punjab Congress Committee (PPCC) today celebrated 67th Independence Day at Congress Bhawan where the PPCC President Partap Singh Bajwa unfurled the national flag and took salute from volunteers of Congress Sewa Dal.

Bajwa paid rich tributes to national martyrs and millions of unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle.  He complimented people of Punjab on this occasion who had made maximum contribution in freedom struggle.

He said that India became a sovereign country on the midnight of August 15, 1947 which is an occasion for all Indians to celebrate. 

Bajwa said that Congress party had led the nation in freedom struggle and after independence laid the foundation of this great nation. He said, the first Prime Minister of Independent India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had worked hard to build a self reliant and strong nation.  The Congress party afterwards religiously followed its philosophy of maintaining India’s political and economic sovereignty, democracy, secularism. He stated that nation was indebted to the national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Nehru and great martyrs like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru who sacrificed their lives for freedom of India from bond of British rule.

He said that it was time that whole nation stood together against divisive and communal forces so that India becomes world power in real sense. He pledged to make any sacrifice to protect the unity and integrity of nation.  He also complimented the Jawans of armed forces who are always ready to protect the sovereignty of India

Sandhu, Col. T.S. Dhillon, Manpreet Kaur Dolly, Rajni Mehta, Krishna Mittu, Swaranjit Kaur and hundreds of Seva Dal workers.
