Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal on Wednesday visits the Doraha grain market and supervises wheat procurement there.

Doraha (Ludhiana), April 15, 2015: Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal today assured the farmers that there would be no shortage of bardana (jute bags) for the ongoing wheat procurement. Dr Atwal visited the Doraha grain market today and supervised wheat procurement there.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal said that the Punjab government has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth procurement of wheat crop in the state. He said that directions have also been issued that there should not be any shortage of bardana (jute bags).

He also interacted with the farmers and directed the officers to redress their grievances on the spot. The Arhtiya';s and farmers present on the spot also honoured Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal as they said that both Paddy and Wheat procurement in the Doraha mandi has always taken place smoothly.

While interacting with media persons, Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal said that very soon, Doraha town will have a fire brigade facility and at Civil Court in Payal, three new judges would be appointed shortly. He said that the Punjab government has made arrangements to ensure hassle-free procurement of wheat crop in the state. He said that strict instructions have been issued that payments to the farmers should also be made on time.

He also thanked the centre government for increasing the compensation amount for damaged crops. He informed that till date, around 1850 MT of wheat crop has arrived in the Mandis of the district, out of which more than 1,000 MT has already been procured.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Subordinate Services Selection Board Chairman Jathedar Santa Singh Umedpuri, SDM Harjot Kaur, BJP leader Bikram Singh Cheema, Jagjiwanpal Singh Gill, besides several others.
