APPROVAL: Empowered committee approves mega projects of Rs. 708.88 Cr

Chandigarh, January 8, 2013: The Empowered Committee on mega projects today approved two projects of Rs. 708.88 crore.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Empowered Committee chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here at CMO this morning. 

Disclosing this here today the spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that the committee had cleared the mega project - Multi Model Logistic Hub (MMLH) with an investment of Rs. 487.38 crore to be set up by Punjab State Container and Warehousing Corporation Limited (CONWARE) in collaboration with the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) in District Ludhiana over an area of 150 acre that would generate direct & indirect employment to 6,000 persons.

The spokesperson further said that the empowered committee also gave its nod for the setting up of a Cricket Stadium-cum-Sports complex with seating capacity for 40,000 spectators with an investment of Rs. 221.50 crore in District SAS Nagar Mohali by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA)..

Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Local Government Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat,  Tourism and Jail Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Industries and Commerce NK Sharma,  Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh, Financial Commissioner Revenue NS Kang, Financial Commissioner Development GS Sandhu, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister SK Sandhu, Principal Secretary Industries Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary Finance and Planning Satish Chandra, Principal Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation Suresh Kumar, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Gaggandip Singh Brar and Director-cum-Secretary Industries Vikas Partap.
