Hyderabad, January 7, 2019, Indian well known spiritual leader Ravi Shankar, Founder of Bangalore based Art of Living(AOL), popularly known as Sri Sri or Guruji to visit the city. He will be the Chief Guest at abhaya Pushkara, a Hyderabad based leading NGO, Abhaya Foundation, a volunteer-driven organization.

Giving details, CS Balachandra Sunku, a Company Secretary turned philanthropist, informed that besides Ravi Shankar who is also Founder of International Association for Human Values and World Forum for Ethics in Business; BVR Mohan Reddy, VV Lakshminaraya, a retired CBI Officer will also grace the celebrations to be held on 20th January at Sandhya Conventions, Gachibowli.

Nearly 5000 philanthropic and service minded citizens, beneficiaries, corporate executives, students, top government officers are expected to participate in the abhaya Pushkara to be held at Sandhya Convention Center, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

Started small in the year 2006, Abhaya Foundation is an NGO with a difference. It is a pride of Telugus as it is a homegrown NGO. It is founded by a professional who is regarded by the corporate world as the advisor to the board on the matters of governance of the company. Balachandra, who remained single is now dedicated his life for the social service.

Till date, Abhaya has no office and no employees, Respective volunteers homes are used as an office. A beneficiary of the Foundation KSV Siva Krishna has become its Secretary. India's premiere industry-led and industry-managed organization, CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) enlisted Abhaya in their Dossier of NGOs.

Many prestigious corporate houses such as Hyundai, CCL, NATCO, TTK Prestige, GVPR, ICSI, ACC, MedPlus, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, SBI, FTAPCCI, Ramesh Gelli Foundation, Asha Jyothi Foundation, Meda Charities, GSPV Trust, P Sivarama Prasad Charities, Hyderabad City Police partnered with abhaya Foundation.

It's one of the very unique initiatives included "Home of Happiness". The Foundation hogged the limelight for this laudable effort. It is built at the investment of Rs 2crore. It is home for the destitute on the roads. It was established in 2012 in a 2-acre land given at Imbrahimpatnam. This 16000 sq ft building is the Home for the abandoned on roads and Empowerment Center for Youth.

A Youth Empowerment Centre is under construction in Ananthapur District at an estimated project cost of Rs 2.5crore.

Abhaya Hunt the Winer, a winter blanket drive is another highly talked about the initiative of the foundation. It is an ongoing project of the foundation.

Winters can be devastating. Many poor and helpless sleep in rags at footpath and roadside and die of cold. They shiver due to a cold breeze and even to sleep comfortably becomes a nightmare. As of 2018, Abhaya could donate 55000 blankets across the country. Similarly, Summer can be too harsh. On the similar lines, under Hunt for Summer initiative, it distributed 5000 umbrellas.

With a mission to serve with HEART, Abhaya focuses on Healthcare, Education/Empowerment; Awareness/Assurance; Rural Development and Leadership and Transformation.

Dedicating his life for rural development, Abhaya's founder Balachandra Sunku served in many roles in the corporate world in NCC Group, ICOMM Group, Siva Shakthi Group, Surana Group Hyderabad. He also served as National Counsellor of ICSI in the state of AP and may have interacted with lakhs of students in South Indian cities.
