Dharamshala, August 3, 2018: In continuation to the speech made by Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur on National Sports University Bill, today he demanded the Central Government to sanction an international level shooting range for Himachal Pradesh.
A press release issued here said that addressing the house, Anurag Thakur said, “Development of sports culture at grassroot level is of key importance. It is must that sports be given as much impetus as education in order to ensure not only creation of future athletes but also a healthy generation. I propose to introduce ‘Bicycle Rim’ model. This means that the National Sports University should be treated as an axle at the centre of sports culture and all the schools will be connected to the University via rims.”
“Himachal Pradesh is fondly known as Veer Bhumi with almost every second house serving the Army. Keeping the same in mind, I would like to request the Central Government to sanction an international level shooting range for Himachal Pradesh. This would ensure furthermore contribution of the State to Armed Forces and also create future athletes as the likes of Vijay Kumar, Samresh Jung, etc,’ he added.
Adding further he said, “Time and again sports have contributed towards rise in tourism sector and overall economy of the State. If we take the example of the FIFA world Cup, though Croatia didn’t make it as the winners but their performance throughout the tournament ensured that even before the finals, the Croatian tourist board announced it had observed a 250% increase in website visits from across the world. Similarly, post construction of HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala, a surge in tourism by 3 times has been witnessed. Not only that, the stadium has contributed manifold across economic aspects of the State.”
