Amritsar, December 19, 2014:  The Punjab School of Economics of the Guru Nanak Dev University, organised Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial Lecture on ‘Indian in World R&D Atlas: How far has the New Patent Regime Helped?’ here today in the conference hall of the Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium. A large number of faculty and students were present. This lecturer was organised in the memory of late Amardeep Singh Shergill.

D.K. Nauriyal from IIT Roorkee delivered the lecture and   A.S.Brar, Vice-Chancellor presided over the function. On this occasion, Prof.Parminder Singh welcomed the guests and  Paramjit Nanda highlighted the achievements of the Department.  Kuldip Kaur of the department appraised the audience about the background of the lecture.

Nauriyal in his lecturer asserted the importance of R&D in India vis-à-vis major world economies. He emphasized that China became the manufacturing hub due to investment in technology and India needs high investment in R&D both from government and private sector. For this reason, patent regime can help to boost R&D investment.

In his presidential remarks,   Brar emphasised to develop knowledge centres in Universities for overall economic growth and development to make the nation competitive so that the objective of inclusive growth can be achieved.   S.S. Dhillon, Registrar presented the vote of thanks. During the lecture,  Gurcharan Singh Shergill, father of Late Amardeep Singh Shergill also shared his experience with the audience.
