AITUC Ludhiana unit on Wednesday holds massive protest rally.

Ludhiana, July 31, 2014: On a call given by state committee AITUC Punjab the Ludhiana unit held a massive protest rally on Wednesday in front of the Mini Secretariat against the “Prevention of Damage to Public and Private Property Bill -2014” passed by the Punjab government recently.

Speaking on the occasion Com D P Maur-General Secretary Joint Council of Trade unions and Com O P Mehta –General Secretary, AITUC, Ludhiana termed the passing of bill a hidden agenda of the Akali-BJP government to curb the constitution right of protest by the people. He said the government has utterly failed to provide basic needs of the people like jobs to the educated and uneducated youth, to contain rising prices, to provide clean drinking water, health care, education, security to women, pension and salary to its employees, check the drug menace and rising crime. On the contrary the government is imposing different types of taxes like property tax, vehicle tax  regularisation of colonies, toll tax on the people, has increased the electricity tariff several times thus putting burden on the people.

Com Kartar Singh Bowani – Vice President, All India Kissan Sabha, Punjab said the Akali-BJP government has failed to keep its promises made during the election campaign like that the contract employees/labour would be regularised. Resultantly people are protesting against the failure of the government on all fronts. So the govt. is coming up with such laws to curb the democratic voice of the people in the garb of such bills. To deal with such activity like damage to the property, laws already exist and there is no need to bring out any new law.

Others who addressed the rally include Com Kewal Singh Banwait- PSEB employees Federation , Vijay Kumar Corporation , Gurmail Singh Medley – PSSF, Feroze Master-Hosiery Workers Union, Ramchander, Tuntun-Construction Workers Union, Manjeet Singh Buta, Pardeep singh Roasways.
