AICRP Meet On Fruits Begins At PAU

Ludhiana, March 3, 2016: A four-day group discussion on Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) - All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Fruits began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Nearly 200 scientists working on banana, citrus, guava, grapes, jackfruit, litchi, mango, papaya and sapota from various State Agricultural Universities and ICAR institutes are participating in the meet.

Giving details, Dr MIS Gill, Head, Department of Fruit Science, said the experts would deliberate on the problems related to fruit cultivation. Today, they dwelt on management of genetic resources, varietal improvement, nutrition, pest management, planting density, propagation and rootstocks, he told. Further, he said the experts would also discuss water management, weed control, orchard management, disease management, growth development and value addition.

Dr H.S. Rattanpal, Organizing Secretary of this meet, informed that the inaugural session would be held on March 5. The major focus of the meet is on working out future strategies to enhance fruit production by evaluating new varieties, and testing new production-protection technologies.
