With the date of polling approaching fast (June 1), the District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney and Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal on Saturday visited the strong rooms and counting centres and took stock of the ongoing arrangements.

Ludhiana, May 18, 2024: With the date of polling approaching fast (June 1), the District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney and Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal on Saturday visited the strong rooms and counting centres and took stock of the ongoing arrangements.

Accompanied by senior officials of Civil and Police departments including ADCs Major Amit Sareen, Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, Rupinder Pal Singh and all Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) of Ludhiana parliamentary constituency, they went to various buildings in Punjab Agricultural University where strong rooms and counting centres to be set up for all nine assembly segments.

DEO Sakshi Sawhney directed the concerned authorities to keep strict vigil on the EVMs. She said that to ensure a free, fair and transparent election process, the role of EVMs was very important and it was our prime duty to safeguard the machines in a foolproof manner. She asked the officials to chalk out the appropriate security deployment plan, so that smooth arrangements could be done in advance after the voting. She also checked the CCTV cameras installed there and asked the police personnel guarding the strong rooms for extra vigilant rooms. She directed that nobody would be allowed to visit strong room areas and entry of officials must be logged in a special log book.

Sawhney said that every effort would be made to ensure that the elections were held in a peaceful and transparent manner besides in consonance with the guidelines of the Election Commission. She also gave necessary directions to the AROs in making some changes.
