Ludhiana, October 5, 2016:The trials for the Indian team (girls) for 6th World Kabaddi Cup to be held in the month of November were completed at Guru Nanak Stadium, here today. Punjab Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Mr Sikandar Singh Maluka supervised these trials and showed satisfaction. More than 200 girls from Punjab and Haryana participated in these trials.
While speaking to media persons on the occasion, Mr Maluka said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government is committed for promoting Kabaddi sport across the globe. He informed that the 6th World Kabaddi Cup would be held from November 3-17, 2016 in different parts of the state. He stated 12 boys teams and 10 girls teams would be participating. Mr Maluka informed that it would be for the first time that three teams from Africa namely Tanzania, Kenya and Sierra Leone would be participating.
He informed that after the completion of selection trials, a total of 30 girls would be selected for the Indian Team (Girls) and their training camp would be held in Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana. He said that later, a final team comprising 14 girls would be selected for participating in World Kabaddi Cup. He stated that earlier, the selection trials for boys team were also held in Ludhiana, and the final selection process is going on. On being asked about the venue of camp of boys team, Mr Maluka said that it has not been decided yet.
He said that dope tests were also conducted during the trials. He said that the opening match would be held at Rupnagar and finals at Jalalabad. He said that this time, all matches of the tournament (excluding Gurdaspur) would be held during day time and in rural areas of the state. In Ludhiana district, matches would be held at Sarabha village on November 5, 2016. Mr Maluka was also accompanied by Deputy Director Sports Mr Ravinder Singh Ravi, besides several others.
