Ludhiana, March 1, 2017: Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana organized a two day 57th Annual Athletic Meet which was inaugurated on 2nd March, 2017.

The 2-day event radiated the spirit of competition among the participating athletes on the first day. The event was graced by veritable dazzle of guests and Director, Training & Curriculum, S.Sukhbir Singh Grewal (Punjab Institute of Sports, Chandigarh) and S.Amritpal Singh, Inspector in Punjab Police National Arjun Awardee, National Record holder in Long Jump (Guest of Honor), S. Gurmail Singh Sangowal, Trustee Nankana Sahib Education Trust with Director GNDEC Dr. M.S. Saini and
Sec. Sports GNDEC, Dr. (Mrs.) Gunjan Bhardwaj along with conduct officials of GNDEC. They set the ball in motion by hosting the flag and releasing bunch of balloons into the sky.

In his inaugural address, the Hon’ ble guests emphasized the importance of games & sports in bringing out the hidden talent by developing challenging spirit , the spirit of Cooperation, discipline, tolerance and the quality of leadership besides physical fitness which are very important in the modern era of Competition.

This was followed by the torchbearers run and the sports flame was set ablaze. The sports students of the college, who excelled in various national, state and inter-university championships in various games and sports events during this academic session, lit the torch and took oath to compete with a sense of sportsmanship. The event began with march-past by NCC Cadets of the college followed by all the departments of the college and NSS students with some social messages written and presented beautifully on canvas boards. The enthusiasm and vigor of athletes was evidently visible.

The Director read out the College Sports Report and highlighted the glorious achievements of the sports students of the college. The college Bhangra team presented the Punjabi Folk Dance “Malwai Giddha” which was highly applauded by all.

Later the program was followed by many athletic events like 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m Race, 4x100 m Relay race, long jump, high jump, javelin throw, shot put etc. The prizes were given away to the winners of the various competitions.
