37th Annual Athletic Meet of A.S.College for Women

Khanna, March 10, 2015: 37th Annual Athletic Meet of A.S.College for Women, Khanna was held in the College Stadium. Sanjay Ghai (Former President, A.S.High School Khanna Trust and Management Society, Khanna) who was the chief guest of the Morning Session, inaugurated the Sports Meet. This function was presided over by C.A Rakesh Goyal, (President A.S High School Khanna Trust and Management Society, Khanna). They were given a floral welcome by the college Principal, Members of Management, College Staff and Students of Central Association. The sports day began enthusiastically with a welcome speech by Principal Dr. Meenu Sharma. She introduced the Chief Guest to the audience and felicitated everyone present on this special occasion.

The event was followed by Flag Hoisting by the Chief Guest who declared the sports meet open. The march past by the units of N.S.S., NCC, B.A.I, II & III was the opening event, with each unit saluting the dignitaries. ‘Mashal’ was lighted, Pigeons were flown and crackers were also displayed on this occasion. Then the Sports Day proceeded with the various events lined up for the day such as 100Mt. 200Mt. & 100X4 Mts. Relay Race, Jumps, Throws, Sack Race, Three Legged Race, Spoon & Potato Race, Obstacle Race and Children Race. Students enthusiastically participated in the events. The ground was filled with cheer, gaiety and excitement as each event’s results were announced. The amount of Rs. 21,000 was given to the College by Chief Guest Sanjay Ghai.

The Chief Guest of the Evening Session was S. L. Lotey (Joint Director Sports Department and Joint Secretary Punjab Sports Council) and the Guest of Honour was Rajinder Puri, a renowned Industrialist. The college principal Dr. Meenu Sharma, Members of Management, College Staff and Students accorded a floral welcome to the Chief Guest. In his address he congratulated the students for taking part in the sports events in a large number and also appreciated them for showing their unity, understanding and will power in the various forms of Sports activities. Winners of various University, State and National level competitions of the session 2014-2015 were honoured by the Chief Guest Rekha Rani B.A I was declared the best athlete of the College Manpreet Kaur B.A II was declared the best Sports Person of the college.

Dean of Sports Arvinder Kaur encouraged the students for continuous participation in Sports. Sheilja H.O.D. Physical Education read out the achievements of sports students of the whole year. Cultural programme was also presented on this occasion. Sports coaches and media persons were honoured for this contribution to college and the society. Vijay Sharma (General Secretary) and Sanjeev Dhamija gave a vote of thanks and congratulated the students on this occasion.
