2nd Punjab State Training Workshop on ‘Thalassemia’ for doctors and nurses
Ludhiana, May 8, 2019: On International Thalassemia Day today, Department of Pediatrics, DMCH Ludhiana today organized the 2nd Punjab State Training Workshop on ‘Thalassemia’ for doctors and nurses, which was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta. Also present on the occasion were Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Medical Supdt Dr Sandeep Sharma,Dr Puneet Aulakh Pooni (Professor & Head of Pediatrics),Dr Amarjit Kaur (Professor & Head of Transfusion Medicine), Mrs Rashmi Karwah from Punjab Thalassemia Welfare Society, Dr Manoj Kumar Sobti (Member, Punjab Medical Council),Dr Amita Trehan, Professor of Hematology Oncology Unit from PGIMER, Chandigarh and Dr Pritpal Singh. While inaugurating the workshop, Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH has always been ahead in providing best quality treatment to thalassemic patients at most affordable costs. He lauded the efforts of Department of Pediatrics in organizing this workshop for generating awareness about ‘thalassemia’ among the participating delegates. Dr Amarjit Kaur extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and participating delegates, present on the occasion. In her message, Dr Amarjit Kaur said that Departments of Transfusion Medicine and Pediatrics have been constantly making joined efforts in providing treatment to ‘thalassemic’ patients The workshop began with lecture by Dr Praveen C. Sobti on ‘Introduction, Clinicnal Diagnosis and Laboratory investigations’ followed by lecture on ‘Blood Transfusion in Thalassemia Major’ by Dr Amita Trehan. Assistant Professor of Pediatrics & In-charge Thalassemia Unit-Dr Shruti Kakkar said keeping in view the theme of International Thalassemia Day this year ‘Universal access to quality of Thalassemia healthcare services: Building bridges with and for patient’ that every patient has a right to get best possible medical care wherever they are based. It is our effort to make standard guidelines for management of thalassemia available to all doctors and nurses. Other topics covered during workshop were ‘Complications and monitoring in Thalassemia’ by Dr Suvir Singh, ‘Bone marrow transplant in thalassemia’ by Dr Joseph John and ‘Antenatal diagnosis and prevention of Thalassemia by Dr Priyanka Gupta A NGO named ‘Arjan Vir Foundation’ was also present on the occasion. Representative of NGO- Ms Jasleen highlighted the process of donating stem cell and also explained to the audience that how can get themselves registered with NGO to become life saver of child.
