2-day Placement Drive ‘Negotium 2019’ commences at PU
Chandigarh, March 6, 2019: Two day Placement Drive ‘Negotium 2019’ was held at University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, commenced here today under the guidance of Director Professor Rattan Singh. Dr.Jasneet Walia, faculty in charge of Career Development Cell, informed that the students are provided this golden opportunity for future. Annual Placement Drive Negotium 2019 received an overwhelming response. A number of students from Fifth year Law Graduates and LLM registered for the Placement Drive enthusiastically. Many leading companies of the tri-city and nearby areas like Fox In tech, a leading Legal Process Outsourcing Company headquartered in Chandigarh and having offices in Tokyo, London and Los Angeles had visited UILS campus to recruit the students. Managing Director of the above said company, joined interview panels during the interviews and laid down the criteria of screening. He and his team updated the aspirants with basic nature of job, pay scales and amplified their morale. The alliance with the Senior Advocates of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh was another feather in the cap of the Career Development Cell of University Institute of Legal Studies. The presence of respected Senior Advocate Mr. Sanjeev Sharma and Mr.Deependra Walia to hire associates boosted the morale of the students. They conducted personal interviews of the shortlisted candidates. During the interviews the candidates were made aware of the tough life of a litigator and were evaluated on the basis of their interests mentioned in their CVs. A well known arbitration firm, AKB Lex, from Panchkula undertook pre-screening of the candidates prior to individual interviews. The interviews were conducted in an impartial, conducive and smooth manner. They put forth questions to the candidates like distinguishing between mainstream litigation and arbitration, principles and nuances of arbitration law as well as application of arbitration law. The recruitment process was a rigorous one encompassing various levels inclusive pre-screening, group discussions and finally individual interviews conducted by the employers and senior advocates. In the group discussions adjudicated by the employers, students were given contemporary topics ranging from political to legal to delve upon in discussion. The aspirants were assessed on the basis of their performance and critical thinking. They were scrutinized on the behalf of policy making and plausible solutions which made them think on their toes. The exercise of the Group Discussions was to judge the capability of the students to narrow down on one single factor responsible for the problems being discussed. In the end, Sumati Legal Services Pvt Ltd, (an elevate business) based in IT Park, Chandigarh conducted a test of fifty students on the UILS Campus and the shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be conducted at their office. The entire event was well organized and supervised by the Career Development Cell head, Dr. Jasneet Walia along with her team of student volunteers facilitating the smooth conduct of the Placement Drive. The Placement Drive shall be continuing tomorrow as well with renowned lawyers of the High Court as well as prestigious laws firms coming to the Institute for recruitment.
