Chandigarh, September 12, 2012: All is set for 3rd edition of World Cup Kabbadi with 14 countries giving their consent to participate in a tournament with highest ever prize money in the world.

Sukhbir Singh Badal accompanied by Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka today gave final touches to the arrangements for mega sports show that has made Kabbadi an international game.

Badal said that this year prize money has been doubled to Rs.2 crore for the winning team, Rs.1 crore for the 2nd team and Rs.51 lac for the 3rd team in the men section whereas in the women team prize money was Rs.0.25 crore for the winning team, Rs.0.15 crore for 2nd team and Rs.0.10 crore for the 3rd team. Participating teams would get Rs.10 lac each.

Badal said that opening & closing ceremonies of the World Cup Kabbadi would be of the level of London Olympics and international bids to organise these ceremonies have already been called. Badal said that opening ceremony would be organized at Bathinda whereas closing ceremony would be at Ludhiana.

Promising a dope free tournament Badal said that Rs.35 lac has been earmarked for anti-doping cell alone. Badal said that no leniency would be shown on the doping front and all countries have been forewarned regarding this.

The countries that are participating in the tournament in men’s section include India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Australia, Italy, USA, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Scotland, Kenya and Argentina. In the women section India, Kenya, Malaysia, USA, UK and Turkmenistan would participate. The tournament has been scheduled from December 1-15.
