Dharamshala, August 18, 2017: The projected Gorkha Community candidate from Dharamshala constituency in the coming assembly elections of Himachal Pradesh, Ravinder Rana said that his first work shall be to make Dharamshala a fearless beautiful city ‘Bhaymukt khoobsoorat Dharamshala’.
Talking to this correspondent in Dharamshala today Rana said, "I want Central University as a single unit at Dharamshala, which has better rail, road and air connectivity than any other city in the surrounding districts of the area. And to establish it in Dehra too is unacceptable.” Rana said, “Dharamshala has a honour to the birth place of Capt Ram Singh Thakur, the creator of the tune of National Anthem ‘Jana Gana mana’. The Central University at Dharamshala must be named after this great music director.”
Rana wants a High Court Bench too in Dharamshala to help the people of far flung areas to get justice at doorstep, which will not be costly compared to Shimla.
When asked that if BJP or Congress does not project him as their candidate will he still go for election as Gorkha community candidate, Rana said, "I do not belong to any political party at the movement, but when 22nd July 2018, The Gorkha Association of Himachal and Punjab unanimously decided to give its candidate for one assembly seat in Himachal and my name was projected for Dharamshala, it has become my responsibility to fight from Dharamshala even if none of the political parties do not support the Gorkhas.” Rana said that he is hopeful to get national political party ticket, because he is capable to win from Dharamshala. Gorkhas have a population of more than 10,000 in Dharamshala and other communities are too supporting them, said the young Gorkha leader, the only to seek election since independence.
He said, "Gorkhas have history of 200 years in the area, and earned laurel in every field, specially in defence sector, now deserve a say in state politics too.”
